Custom systems and software
Your system should grow the business, not the workload. I build you that system.
Custom software built around how you actually work. Fully owned by you, and cared for by the person who built it.
- One system that fits how your business actually works, instead of disconnected tools.
- Real code, real security, and a database that won't box you in later.
- No lock-in. The codebase and every account transfer to you, easily and completely.
- Start to finish with the person who actually builds it. You talk to me, not an account manager.
Two problems. The same answer.
If everything runs through you
You're running it on spreadsheets, SaaS products, and your memory.
Off-the-shelf tools never quite fit how you work, so you end up filling the gaps yourself. It works. But it just takes up all your time.
If you already built the cheap version
You tried it yourself, with an AI tool or a no-code setup, and it got you most of the way.
Then it started breaking in ways you can't diagnose, and the parts you'd need to change are the parts you don't understand. The demo worked. A business doesn't run on a demo.
Work with me
How to work with me.
We talk about your business, then build your system. No agency, no account managers, no handoff to a junior. You deal directly with the person who builds your software.
- Step one, always Strategy Call $300 credited to your audit
- Before any build The Audit $2,000 credited to your system
- The build The System From $20,000 paid in stages
- Optional, ongoing Care From $1,000/mo for as long as you want it
How it starts
Strategy Call
One hour, one-to-one. Bring your business and your problem, leave with a clear direction.
- 60 minutes, direct with me.
- Screened first, so I only book calls I know I can help with.
- Every engagement starts here, and the audit includes this same call.
- The $300 is credited toward your audit if you carry on.
The Audit
A written technical document for your business. What you get:
- Opens with the Strategy Call, the same 60 minutes, included.
- What's working and what's at risk.
- Where custom software or AI is worth your money.
- One clear recommendation and fixed quote to build your system.
- A 90 minute call to go through it with me and talk through the build.
Then the work
The System
Your custom system, quoted as one fixed number from your audit and paid in stages as it comes to life.
- Working software early, signed off as we go.
- You pay at each stage, as you see it working.
$20,000 buys a complete working system. If what you need is bigger than that, the audit prices the extra parts on their own, so you can see each one and decide. What it looks at:
- How many users there are and what they are allowed to see.
- Whether there's existing data to migrate.
- Whether it's replacing something live that can't go down.
- How many other systems it has to stay in sync with.
- Whether the business logic already exists, or it is novel.
Care
You own the system, so running it yourself is always an option. Most people would rather not have to think about it.
- Hosting oversight, security, and dependency updates.
- Bug fixes and small improvements as they come up.
- A developer on call who already knows your codebase, ready when something breaks.
Ownership
Built so you could hand it to someone else tomorrow.
What happens to your system if the person who built it disappears? This is the biggest risk with hiring one person. I work to mitigate that risk from the start.
- The code, the database, the domain and the hosting all move into your accounts whenever you ask for them.
- Standard tools, not a private framework of mine. Any competent developer can pick it up and keep going.
- Written documentation of how the system works, delivered with the build rather than promised later.
- Nothing of mine sits in the middle of it. There is no platform of mine to migrate off, and no fee to leave.
How it works
Audit first. Then the system. Then care.
Everything starts small and low-risk. You see the thinking before you commit to a system.
You apply
I only take on work I can do well, so I'll tell you straight if it isn't a fit. If it is, the audit is invoiced and the clock starts.
You get the audit
It starts with a 60 minute call, then I write it up: a technical document on your business and one fixed quote to build your system. It is written to stand on its own, and then we spend 90 minutes going through it together, so you can ask everything you want to ask before you decide on anything. The fee credits toward your system.
I build it, then I look after it.
Working software early, signed off as we go. You pay at each stage as you see it come to life, so what you pay tracks real progress and your risk stays low. After launch, an optional Care plan keeps it healthy. You own the code and the data, and everything transfers to you whenever you want it.
Featured work
MileMethod.
For years I convinced myself that everything was fine, that stress was just part of owning a business. But every new client stretched me thinner until my entire life was work. Build Simple Systems fixed my bottlenecks. I feel like I can breathe again.

MileMethod
Custom platform · V1 built & delivered →The problem
A miles and points advisor ran a travel rewards service across a set of disconnected tools, with the owner stuck as the manual step in every client's path.
What I built
One custom portal and admin system: client intake, applications, card tracking, notifications, and payments, built around how the business actually runs.
The outcome
One system instead of the whole disconnected set of tools. ~600 clients migrated into a single place the owner runs the business from, off the critical path and out of every client's way.
Questions
The things people ask first.
Why work with a solo dev instead of an agency?
One developer with good AI tooling ships faster than an agency can. You talk to the same person the whole way through. There's no salesperson out front, just me, the developer who builds it. And because it's one person, the whole context of your business sits in one head instead of scattered across a team.
Couldn't I just build this myself with AI?
Some of it, yes, and some people should. AI is very good at producing something that demonstrates an idea. What it doesn't do is make the architectural decisions that determine whether the thing still works in two years, or notice the edge case that quietly corrupts your data, or be awake at 2am when payments stop going through. Building it is the part that got cheap. Running something your customers depend on is the part that didn't. If your system is internal and nothing breaks when it's down for a day, build it yourself. If your customers log into it and your revenue moves through it, that's a different decision.
Aren't you just vibecoding AI slop?
I build with AI, and I won't pretend otherwise. That fear is fair. If by vibecoding you mean shipping whatever the model produces without understanding the output, then yes, it will lead to buggy, unmaintainable slop. But AI can also write quality code, and AI-produced code is already being shipped by the top software companies. What decides the quality is who's using the tool. Writing code is only one part of engineering. The harder part is working out the right solution and making the architectural calls that still hold up in two years. That work is mine, and it's where my CS degree and software engineering experience pay off. A vibecoder with no technical background can't do this. I've already used AI to build and ship an app for a happy client (see the case study). AI is the tool, the judgment is mine.
What if I'm not sure exactly what I need?
That's normal. Most people who write to me start there. You don't need to show up with a spec or even know what's technically possible. That's what the strategy call is for: you bring the problem and how you work, and I help you figure out what's worth building. If it makes sense to go deeper, the audit turns that into a concrete plan.
Why pay for an audit instead of getting a free quote?
A free quote would just be an unhelpful guess. The audit goes deep into your business and produces a technical document laying out exactly what I would build for you, with the quote attached. That document is valuable on its own, and it's yours to keep: build from it yourself, or hand it to another developer. And if you go ahead with me, the audit fee credits toward your system.
Is $20,000 the real price, or will it end up costing more?
$20,000 is the floor. It buys a complete working system that does the job it was built for. The floor exists because some requests are much bigger than that: a web app and a mobile app, old data to migrate, thousands of people logging in with different levels of access. That isn't a $20,000 build. Saying otherwise would only move the real number into a conversation we have after you've already committed. The audit is what settles it. It says what $20,000 covers in your case, and prices anything past it as its own piece of work. You see every part with a number against it before you agree to any of it.
I already built something with AI. Can you just fix it?
Often, yes. It's a common place to start now. A strategy call or an audit is where to begin: I look at what you've built and tell you honestly whether it's a foundation or a prototype, then quote either to fix it or to rebuild it properly. Sometimes the honest answer is that what you have is fine and you don't need me yet. I would rather tell you that than take your money.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size and complexity of the system. A straightforward one is usually about a month. Something customer facing, with real integrations, existing data to migrate, or several kinds of user takes longer, because it needs more care to get right. The audit gives you a timeline alongside the quote, so you know before you commit. Either way you pay in stages, so your risk stays low. You pay as you watch it come to life.
Do I own the code?
Absolutely. The code and the data are yours. I can run it for you, or move the code, the database, the domain and the hosting into your accounts whenever you want them, including the day an engagement ends. You can keep working with me, do it yourself, or bring in a different developer. No lock-in, no hostage situation, no fee to leave. And the handover is a real one: standard tools, written documentation, and nothing of mine sitting in the middle.
What happens after launch?
After launch, Care is optional and priced to the scale of your system. Think of it like insurance for your software: for a flat monthly fee I keep it patched and monitored, and stay on call if anything breaks. Since I built it, I can respond faster than anyone else, and a quiet month means the plan is working.
Ready to work with me?
Tell me what you're stuck on, and whether you want a strategy call or an audit. I read every message myself and will be back in touch soon.
